How We Work

UN Plus was established by UN staff living with HIV in March 2005. Since then, it has been growing as an advocacy group within the United Nations system to respond to numerous challenges faced by UN staff living with HIV.

UN Plus is coordinated by the Global Coordinator who is based in UNAIDS HQ in Geneva, Switzerland. Within UNAIDS, UN Plus is housed under the Department of Rights, Gender and Community Mobilization of the Programme Branch.

UN Plus is governed by the Global Advisory Group, which consists of eminent UN Plus members from different regions. The Advisory Group members give policy directions to the Global Coordinator.

Several UN Plus members who want to be actively engaged in UN Plus programmes are recognized as UN Plus Volunteers. UN Plus Volunteers act as representatives of UN Plus in their respective countries and regions. They volunteer to reach out to staff living with HIV and disseminate information about UN Plus to both UN and non-UN audiences.

In some countries, UN Plus is locally organised as either a Country Chapter by UN Plus members or a Friends of UN Plus by non-UN Plus members. Both Country Chapters and Friends of UN Plus provide support services and essential information to UN staff living with HIV.

For more information about how to become a member as well as UN Plus advocacy and support activities, please send an e-mail to unplus@unaids.org. All communication will be treated confidentially.
